Self Care - Take Care Sunday

15 March 2020

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well and looking after yourself during this uncertain season,

I have heard so many news stories everyday about the Corona Virus and as a public health professional it is quite unsettling not knowing exactly what to say to people. I have found that the best thing to recommend is washing your hands and using anti bacterial hand gels when you are unable to do so. I would definitely say that practicing self care wouldn't do any harm.

My tips for self care follow :

1. Eating Healthier, research recipes and plan meals to include more vegetables that are high in Vitamin C such as Spinach, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, and Cauliflower into your diet.

2. Getting involved in physical activity, I currently play semi professional football / soccer which I hope to talk about more but I know how I feel when I play or do something active. I feel so much better, I feel that I am able to leave all my stress and worries on the pitch and I feel so much lighter after I have played.

3. Reading an enriching book by someone who inspires you or an inspiring topic, I find that reading novels which themes of strong women where I feel that can lose myself in a book, I'm currently reading Under the Udala Trees which is one of my favourite books based in Nigeria, Igboland.

4. DECLUTTER, removing old papers, old clothes and cleaning is really good for a healthy mindset and I find that I can think better even by tidying up my bed before work and coming hime to a clean room.

5. Have a nap, I am the queen of naps as I find them refreshing and calming. I am able to think better and plan my life after I have rested rather than when I feel that everything is chaotic.

I really hope you all look after yourself and loved ones during this period as we really don't understand the extent of this virus.

Keep safe,

My London Workwear Edit

8 March 2020

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is well,

I'm not even going to say that I am back to blogging as that will be the 100th time I have said that but we move. I have recently been considering what my work - wear style is. I like many different styles of clothing but I have often struggled to find out what is stylish in my eyes but also suits my body shape. My body is definitely a work in progress and I have accepted that but I still need to feel comfortable in what I am wearing. I want my work - wear style to be an expression of my personal self and feel comfortable in my own skin. I would say that I love all Parisian style basics such as the striped top, great jeans, trench coat and blazers however, I do adore the classic all black outfit. I would say that finding your style means experimenting a great deal and figuring out what works for you rather than your favourite instagrammer or blogger. However, I find that workwear is definitely where I have found my safe space and I will list some great options that definitely work for most body shapes. My key essentials are black blazer, black jumper, camel coat, loafers and white shirt. These pieces can be used to make many different outfits. I would recommend shops such as M&S, Zara, & Other Stories and ASOS for work wear that is stylish, good quality and affordable.

1. The all black outfit :

Blazer - Zara
Jumper - New Look
Trousers - ASOS
Loafers - & Other Stories

2. The camel coat outfit

Coat - Zara
White Shirt - ASOS
Trousers - ASOS
Loafers - & Other Stories
Bag - Chloe

Brighton

12 January 2020

Hello from Brighton, Hove

I'm currently here for the weekend which was a pleasant surprise trip from my boyfriend. It has been so beautiful to experience the coastal waves, fresh air and listening to the peaceful sounds from beach at night. I would like to thank God for the experience of working in a mental health setting  and for being able to experience the smallest wonders. I am definitely going to take more time resting and enjoying what I have and less time being sad and comparing myself to unrealistic perceptions of society. I really want to be successful in every avenue I take but I need to work on areas that hinder that success such a procrastination and laziness which are my new year resolutions. But back to Brighton which is truly wonderful and definitely should be a place to visit if you live or don't live in the UK.

My top 5 things to do in a Brighton

1. Although Brighton is clearly posh in some parts, there so many things you can do which are fun and cost effective such as visiting the beach. It's a rocky beach but it has such wonderful views, that you forget the lack of sand.

2. So many cute places to eat, we went to Cin Cin which served amazing Italian food at such good prices and definitely pick up some local fish and chips, I could have eaten that all weekend.

3. Cinema, the Odeon or Picturehouse were really lovely in Brighton and had such a great variety of films and snacks, we went twice and watched Little Women and 1917. I loved both films which were films based in the past and painted a beautiful picture.

4. Shopping, they have so many vintage shops - we got some amazing finds !!

5. Brighton Pier - full of arcade games and fun fair rides, it is a great place for fun and laughs

Hope you enjoyed this read

What to pack for a weekend trip to Europe “en tant que fan de football”

1 June 2019

Hello,

Hope you have all been well,

I am currently planning for my weekend trip to Nice to watch a football game. It will be England Ladies vs Scotland and it will be my first time watching professional women play. I find this fact really funny as I play football semi – professionally which I love. I will be packing as a person who loves neutral Parisian fashion and occasional football shirts. Therefore, my wardrobe choices for a weekend are conflicting. I have seen the retro England men’s shirt from Sports Direct and think that will definitely be a choice. I always think a good pair of trousers or jeans are essential, plain white tee, white blouse and short mac coat and blazer would be good. I will definitely be wearing my Veja trainers which go with everything. I will be ordering another pair soon as I love the retro vibe they bring to my outfits.

Smiling through insecurities

26 May 2019

Hello,

Hope you have all been well. Recently, I have made small changes to my life such as diet changes, going to the gym and socialising more and now feel so much better - physically and mentally. It can be so easy to allow insecurities to cripple you and I am very guilty of that. It is also one of the reasons why I started blogging as I needed a space to be me. I wanted to discuss what my insecurities are - which is my weight. I know that I really hate the size that I am currently and I am allowed to do so, even if I hide it well. I know that I am an emotional eater and that when things are tough that I will eat. It is why although I have gone from a size 10 to 14 - I don't see that as the end of the world. It really took me a while to come to terms with that, being from a Nigerian background: I am constantly reminded of my size and compared to my slimmer sisters. I take those "you should lose weight, where did this weight come from or cut down on the yam" jabs weekly, but eventually it does eat away at you emotionally. I know that I will lose this weight but that that will take time.
